Moving Towards Us is the first formal manifestation of an ongoing research project, in which Jonas Van Holanda takes up the physical and philosophical concept of negative entropy (or syntropy) to approach the idea of a transmutation of flesh into sound. He thus evokes the possibility of the body beyond its flesh as a sensory and temporal experience.
The acoustic elementis at the heart of the installation shown at Plattform22, starting from an exploration of vibrations thataddress the effects of the artist’s spiritual and hormonal transition. From there, his ear whispers the voices of ghosts trapped in the earth.
The video and its subtitles are the poetic expression of this shift in the narrator’s point of view. Jonas Van Holanda mobilizes the perception of reality of a traveler launched at the speed of light. The colors are shifting (redshift, blueshift) and like a ghost, their materiality becomes uncertain; at this speed reality seems viscous and reticular. The very state of transition as space-time dilation opens up the possibility of togetherness.
