Will I haunt you like you haunt me?
Following her previous video Clockwatchers (2021, 23 minutes), Elin Gonzalez continues a critical reflection on working conditions in the age of neo-capitalism. The piece presented in Plattform22 is a first sequence of a 3D animated film that will be developed over the coming year.
Set in a future where space flight and colonization have been made possible by multi-billionaires such as Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, the narrative focuses on the journey of a young worker. Disillusioned with Earth’s social and climatic state, he embarks on a flight to Mars where he’ll take part in the construction of a habitable zone.
Through these cogitations from a Non-place without temporality or reference points, Elin Gonzalez questions the inevitability of capitalist oppression, its penetration into the very construction of our hopes and the inevitable disenchantment of our utopias. The radiant future promised by space expansion is merely a reiteration of terrestrial modes of oppression, dictated by demiurgic multinationals.
